The property, which now is Ellsworth Meadows
Golf Club, was at one time a dairy farm, then a vegetable
"truck" farm and finally, in the 1970's, it underwent a
transformation into a privately owned golf course. In the
late 90s' the course had fallen into a state of disrepair
and was put on the market to be sold. In 1997 the residents
of Hudson voted to buy the property to maintain the green
space. In 1998, Hudson City Council made the decision to
use the property as a golf course and that the business
would be self- sustaining. The revenues derived from golf
course operations would fund all operating costs and future
improvements. The name was changed to Ellsworth Meadows
Golf Club in recognition of James W. Ellsworth. Mr. Ellsworth
had long been regarded as Hudson's benefactor for his efforts,
in the early 1900's, to help revitalize the community.
Today, over 1 million dollars of improvements
have already been completed. Greens have been rebuilt, new
tees added, bunkers rebuilt, a new pump house built, new
bridges installed and a considerable amount of drainage
added. Well water, instead of an insufficient run-off supply,
is used for irrigation through a new double row irrigation
system. It has the capability of watering tees, greens,
fairways and the rough through a state of the art control
system.
Considerable improvements have been made
to the clubhouse and a 160-seat pavilion was constructed
for outing use.
Development of the additional 60 acres came
to completion July, 2004 to lengthen the course to 6830
yards and provide you with a beautiful state-of-the-art
practice and learning facility.
